International Conference:
8-10 December 2008, Berlin, Germany
Welcome
to the website of the International Conference "Policies against Hunger VII: The Right of Food is Human Right". The conference is part of a high-ranking series of conferences that have been addressing important topics to do with global food security on a yearly basis since 2001. This year the conference will address the topic "The Right of Food is Human Right" – against the backdrop of the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The conference will be hosted by the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection and will take place in Berlin from the 8-10 December. The aim of the event is to discuss different courses of action and to compile a list of recommendations to ensure the realisation of the right to food. The conference will focus on five areas:
- The right of food and access to natural resources
- Experiences from the national implementation of the guidelines on the right to food
- The right of food as a criterion for coherent international policies
- Consideration of the right of food in strategies for solving the food crisis
- Strengthening of the enforcebility of the right to food
The conference "Policies against Hunger" will provide a discussion forum to identify solutions regarding the realisation of the right to food, in order to provide answers to the current food crisis and the structural causes of hunger. The aim of the conference is to develop appropriate strategies for politics, civil society, science, and human rights organisations.
